Opposition to Trump and Musk’s Cuts at NJ Protest

Correction, 3/18/2025, 2:01 p.m.: An earlier dateline on this story incorrectly rendered the name of the town where the protest took place. It is Northfield, NJ, not Northfields.

NORTHFIELD, NJ (SBN) — Some 300-400 protestors marched near Republican Rep. Jeff Van Drew’s Atlantic County district office here Thursday afternoon to oppose moves by President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, head of the so-called “Department of Government Efficiency” or DOGE to make sweeping cuts to federal employment, funding, and programs supporting social safety nets.

The protesters carried signs opposing Elon Musk, calling Van Drew a “traitor,” and demanding the congressman hold in-person town hall meetings to hear from constituents.

Van Drew and his staff did not appear at the demonstration, but two individuals were in the crowd with signs of support for the one-time Democrat who jumped to the Republican party after Trump’s 2016 presidential win.

SBN News Director Steve Lubetkin filed this report from the protest.
