Big-box stores and warehouses have billions of square feet on their roofs that could be covered with solar panels. An analysis from Environment America found the total area of rooftops on shopping malls and big stores such as Walmart and the Washington state-based company Costco is an estimated seven-point-two billion square feet. That’s the size of Seattle – three times over.
