ASBURY PARK, NJ—(SBN)—SBN is providing a daily local newscast for a newly launched live music program being streamed via AsburyMusic.com, an Internet-only radio service based here. The music show is hosted by Lee Mrowicki, who has been the house DJ at the iconic Stone Pony in Asbury Park for 40+ years.
SBN News Director Steve Lubetkin is anchoring the newscasts from SBN’s Cherry Hill newsroom, with coverage of New Jersey news from around the state.
“It’s exciting for me to come full circle in my broadcasting career,” said Lubetkin, who returned to online audio and video 12 years ago when he launched The Lubetkin Media Companies, the parent of SBN. “Terrestrial radio stations are missing an incredible opportunity to engage their audiences with local news and music content, and Radio Jersey has a great chance to fill that void.”
The Radio Jersey program is broadcast Monday through Friday from 4-7 p.m. on AsburyMusic.com, and can also be heard through several Internet radio apps on mobile devices. The show will also feature guest reports from local musicians and other creative artists.
Lubetkin and Mrowicki first worked in radio together in the 1970s at Monmouth University’s student-run radio station, WMCX-FM, where Mrowicki was program director and Lubetkin was operations director.
They later joined WJLK-AM & FM (now known as 94.3 The Point), which at the time was owned by the Asbury Park Press newspaper and based in Asbury Park. Mrowicki worked in production and Lubetkin was a news anchor for the station.
Their most famous collaboration there came on May 30, 1976 when the station broadcast a live concert by Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes from the Stone Pony. Mrowicki introduced the concert live from the club, and Lubetkin was the engineer in the station’s master control room for the broadcast.
Advertisers interested in sponsoring the three-minute newscasts should email SBN for rate card information.
